Lakewood Ranch Florida, a hidden gem, is a relatively new community nestled in the heart of Manatee county. Lakewood Ranch has beautiful homes, modern amenities, and all the benefits of living close to work or your favorite sporting venues.
History of Lakewood
The history of Lakewood Ranch began with the establishment of Sarasota as a city. In 1902, Thomas Armstrong first established Sarasota as a city so he could have better access to transportation routes for his Lumber business.
After his death in 1910, his wife Flora took over along with her brothers, Frank and John Ringling providing funds for the public library (now called Mote Marine), opera house theater (now known as The Asolo), circus museum ( now home to the State Theater), and the world-famous circus, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus ( still running strong today).
It wasn't until 1989 that Lakewood Ranch began to take off as a master-planned community. The first model homes were available in 1991 with new construction houses completed by 1992.
These early residents now look back fondly on those days when road work was plentiful, neighbors were few, and evening walks meant crickets chirping instead of traffic noise.
Lakewood Ranch Florida is located just South of Sarasota between I75 and Route 41/I75 interchange. There are currently almost 20,000 single-family dwellings built throughout the community with more being added each week due to demand for housing across the country.
Lakewood Ranch has various master-planned neighborhoods throughout the community that are all part of larger master-planned development known as Lakewood Ranch.
